More about MOTYK

A short history

It was back in the Autumn of 2016

when the musicians of MOTYK first came together.

Guitarist Pablo Ortiz (Mexico), a longstanding member, joins forces with masterful bassist Joris Vanvinckenroye and the exceptional violinists Anouk Sanczuk and Zhazira Ukeyeva (Kazakhstan) to form a powerhouse acoustic quartet.

Our Music

MOTYK’s music defies categorization.

While there are bands that share certain elements, none quite capture their unique sound. It’s a dynamic blend of progressive folk and jazz fusion, infused with the elegance of chamber music. The result is an acoustic, energetic and richly textured experience that never fully settles into one genre.

Though based in Belgium, their music often carries echoes of Eastern Europe and even Asian traditions, giving it a distinctive world music feel.

Yet MOTYK carves its own path, always evolving, always surprising!

In 2019, the band was nominated for Best Live Band at the Flanders Folk Awards, and their album Back Alive! won Best Album of the Year (Multi-Genre Fusion) from the Indie Acoustic Project (USA).

Always pushing boundaries, the quartet continues to explore

new musical crossovers.

They are the driving force behind the Global Music Ensemble,

collaborating with the band Troisseur and other outstanding musicians

to explore new stylistic and geographic frontiers.

Additionally, they are working with the Gregorian choir Sathanao on Crossroads, a project where original compositions and traditional Georgian songs merge into an enchanting musical journey.

MOTYK has already performed on stages in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Mexico, and France—and their international journey is only just beginning.
